Pride and Prejudice Remix
I’m going on record to say most of the books that try to do a new take on Pride and Prejudice are terrible. Any time people try to write from Mr. Darcy’s perspective; terrible. I have a general rule to leave Ms. Austen alone. But that being said, Pride by Ibi Zoboi was actually good.
Same basic premise, no dual weddings at the end though because they are teenagers in the 21st century but all the basic storyline is there. Set in a New York neighborhood, Zoboi manages to find a fresh story that makes this one work. The Lizzie character is still sassy, Darcy is still arrogant, Collins is still a crazy man, and Mrs. Bennet is still an over the top character but it works.
Setting it in the economical neighborhood she did worked and made this story plausible in 21st century America. In other words, if you read no other Pride and Prejudice remix, read this one.
